A semi driven by a 55-year-old Chicago man struck the CSX railroad crossing gate at the intersection of 4th Street and National Avenue just after midnight Sunday. The incident occurred at 12:06am Sunday, when a Behdad Hossenkhorrami’s semi struck the crossing gate, dragging various parts of it southbound on Fourth Street until the parts became snagged on on a Mediacom cable wire and a tree near the intersection of Fourth and Southeastern.
Along with the CSX railroad crossing gate and the mediacom cable, a power pole and guide wire belonging to Ameren was also damaged. The driver in the incident was ticketed for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Improper Lane Usage.
The damaged crossing guard has been replaced.
