The Teutopolis Lady Shoes basketball team took home a second place trophy from the state tournament this weekend. T-Town fell to Byron 53-44 in the championship game.
Byron’s defense was on display early in the game, forcing seven Teutopolis turnovers in the first quarter. The Lady Shoes were down 19-7 in the second quarter, but went on a 12-2 run to get back in the game. Teutopolis trailed by two at the half, and trailed by 30-26 four after three quarters. Byron shot 80% from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, knocking down 16 of 20 foul shots on their way to the win.
Raegan Drees was Teutopolis’ leading scorer on the night with 11 points. Jamie Sandschafer was also in double figures with 10. Anna Hartke set a state championship record by grabbing 19 rebounds.
Teutopolis finished the regular season with a record of 29-7.
In the 1A championship game Hardin Calhoun defeated Central A&M 60-56 in overtime.
