The sentencing date for the former Altamont resident who pleaded guilty in September to child pornography offenses, and the charges identity theft and extortion has again been delayed. 24-year-old Stephen B. Mislich, who is currently a Bowling Green, Ohio resident, was scheduled to appear for sentencing on Thursday. Now Mislich will not be sentenced until March 7.
When Mislich pleaded guilty he admitted that he stole the online identity of a victim from Effingham County, and then used that identity to extort and attempt to extort nude images and videos form several other victims in the area. One of the victims was 16 years old at the time of the offense and the images Mislich forced her to produce constituted child pornography under federal law.
Mislich could face a maximum penalty of 63 years in federal prison, $2,000,000 in fines, and a lifetime of supervised release.
The case is being handled at the US District Courthouse in Benton.
