The Effingham County Board has voted in favor of expanding the County’s Housing Authority. The Board approved the expansion at their monthly meeting, which was held Wednesday instead of this past Monday due to President’s Day. The Housing Authority will now expand from five members to seven. The Board explained that Housing Authority rules don’t allow for the expansion of just one member, so two had to be added. The Board said further that the reason for the expansion is the desire to have one of their members on the Housing Authority. Mike DePoister, Joe Thoele, and Jeff Simpson voted against the expansion. They cited concerns about being able to fill the additional spot.
The Board also approved appointments to the Watson Fire Protection Trustees and Grant Committee. D. Alan Davis was approved to replace Gary Packer as a Watson Fire Trustee, and will serve the remainder of Packer’s term from February 24th through May of next year. The Board also approved Sara Stephen and Quentin Reinheimer to the Grant Committee. Their term will begin on March 1st and go until February 28, 2018.
