The 39-year-old Vandalia man who had been charged with attempted murder has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in Fayette County court and has received probation.
Travis E. Stewart was in court last week where he pleaded guilty to Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. The charge stemmed from the shooting incident that occurred on April 5th of last year in Vandalia. Investigating police found a large bullet hole in a cabinet door inside the residence where the shooting occurred. Upon examining the complainant’s car police observed shotgun pellets had penetrated the front passenger fender, the hood and the windshield of the vehicle.
Stewart was initially arrested on four counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Those charges were later amended and a count of Attempted Murder was added, though that charge was dropped with the guilty plea. Stewart was sentenced to 36 months probation and 11 days in jail with credit for time served. He was also ordered to pay approximately $8,770 in fines.
