The Effingham County Tax and Finance Committee discussed a shortage in the Pet Population Control Fund at their recent meeting. The fund is running low as a result of the high number of recent adoptions from Animal Control. The fund is used to spay and neuter adopted pets. The Tax and Finance Committee, along with Effingham County Animal Control are looking into options to assist this fund. Animal Control is currently in the process of checking with local veterinarians to see if more affordable prices are available. Using money from a different fund is also being considered.
The Committee also discussed the State’s Attorney’s copy machine contract. Currently the State’s Attorney’s copy . The contract is set to expire, and will likely join the other county departments. This change is expected to be cheaper in the long run.
