What would happen if we gave humanity one night a year where all crime was legal and emergency services were all suspended? Nothing good. That scenario was explored in The Purge, and its sequel, The Purge: Anarchy. Both films pit generally nice, law abiding citizens against those who take full advantage of the consequence-free Annual Purge. You would think that someone would have thought this purge thing was a bad idea? Finally, in the third installation we have found that person:
The new film seems to follow a politician who is trying to end the Annual Purge. Naturally, there are going to be dark forces who want to stop her, and conveniently, they have the Purge night to do just that.
The trailer is laced with American symbolism, Like this creepy Betsy Ross and Statue of Liberty. The Purge: Election Year is due in theaters this July.
