Congressman John Shimkus and State Senator Kyle McCarter are facing off in the March 15th primary for the republican nomination in the 15th district, of which Shimkus is currently the incumbent. Both Shimkus and McCarter have been hitting the campaign trail, and each made a recent announcement of their newest endorsements.
Senator McCarter has been backed by Tax Accountability, a watch dog group that is the political action arm of Taxpayers United of America (TUA). Jim Tobin, president of Tax Accountability and Taxpayers United of America, cited McCarter’s record in office, calling him a “true champion of Illinois taxpayers, having recently received the highest pro-taxpayer rating in the thirty-two years we’ve conducted our biennial tax survey of the Illinois General Assembly.”
Congressman Shimkus’ most recent endorsement came from the Illinois Farm Bureau. Shimkus announced the endorsement Monday at the Effingham Farm Bureau Office.
“He’s always accessible and has an incredible track record of supporting Farm Bureau on priority issues like EPA overregulation, renewable fuels, trade, and crop insurance,” said ACTIVATOR Trustee Committee chair Washington County Farm Bureau President Gale Koelling.
