The Effingham Park Board met Wednesday, where they were updated on the Workman Sports & Wellness Complex, which opened on Monday. The Board learned that the opening went very smoothly, and saw over 1,200 people enter the facility. The Complex has also topped 400 members, with 429 as of February 3. That membership total includes both individual and family memberships.
The Board also voted in favor of authorizing the issuance of general obligation park bonds. The bonds are in the amount of $500,000 and is to be used for financing park facilities and improvements, including landscaping, furniture, and fixtures at the Sports Complex, and related facilities, improvements, and costs.
The Park Board sells bonds in this amount annually, and the bond sale does not impact taxes.
In other news regarding the newly opened Sports Complex, March 1 is still the hopeful opening date for the facilities aquatics center, but that date has not been confirmed.
