The Effingham County Health Committee met Wednesday, where it was announced that the Health Department has still not received any money from the state. The lack of funding is due to the lack of budget in Springfield. The Health Department has been able to continue operations though, as Federal and Medicaid funding has been received. At this time there is no update on when state money will be received, and it is estimated that the Effingham County Health Department is owed approximately $180,000 by the state.
The Health Committee also discussed plans for a Crisis Nursery Initiative. The initiative would set up temporary emergency placement of children in Effingham County that are infant age to six years old when the situation calls for it. A car accident involving a guardian was given as an example for when this service could be needed. At this time, the Effingham County Health Department’s building would be the location for this temporary placement. The Health Department still needs to vote on the initiative.
