The Cumberland Pirates and the Arcola Purple Riders met Saturday in the Little Okaw Valley Conference tournament championship. Arcola took home the title with a 66-52 win. The game was competitive early, with Arcola holding a 11-7 lead midway through the first quarter. Cumberland though went scoreless the rest of the quarter, and was outscored 21-8 over the rest of the first half.
Arcola added to their lead with a 19 point third quarter, and were up by 21 with 8 minutes to play. The Pirates fought tough in the fourth quarter and got within 12, but Arcola went 7/8 from the free throw line late to seal the win.
Cumberland was led by Tyson Magee and Trevor Beard with 13 and 12 points each. Arcola had a big game from Kolin Seaman, who had 19 points. Even with the loss, the Pirates had a 3-1 tournament and took home a second place trophy. The Pirates are now 12-9 on the season. Arcola improved to 17-3 with the win.
