A Marion County resident who worked as a prisoner transport driver for the Sheriff’s department was killed Wednesday morning when his vehicle slid on the ice and collided with a semi.
22-year-old Adam Conrad of Sandoval was driving a sheriff’s transport van on Interstate 57 near Mt. Vernon when he lost control of the vehicle and began to spin on the ice. The vehicle spun from the northbound lane of traffic across the median, and into the southbound lane where it collided with an oncoming semi.
Conrad was transported to the hospital where he died from his injures. A 17-year-old passenger being transported for a court appearance was in the vehicle as well. He sustained injuries and was taken to a regional hospital.
