Illinois was blown out Tuesday by the Hoosiers, losing on the road 103-69. The Illini faced a double digit deficit early, but battled back to get within one point at 22-21 with about seven minutes left in the first half. From that point on it was all Hoosiers, as they outscored the Illini 20-4 over the rest of the half. Indiana continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Illini 61-44.
It was a historical night for Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell, who finished with 16 points and nine assists on the night. The senior guard broke Michael Lewis’ career record for assists (545), with his total reaching 553. Ferrell also moved within 13 points of passing Eric Anderson for No. 10 on the Hoosiers’ career scoring list.
Troy Williams of Indiana was the game’s leading scorer with 21. Malcolm Hill had 20 points in the loss for the Illini, while Mike Thorne Jr. returned from injury to score 9 points and grab 9 rebounds.
