The Cumberland Pirates had their three game winning streak snapped Tuesday night when Arcola came to town. The Purple Riders were led by Austin Shafer’s 23 points in their 74-51 lead. Shafer made all three shots he attempted in the first quarter, all from beyond the arc, giving Arcola a 19-9 lead. The Riders added to that lead in the second quarter, and were up 38-22 at the half. Cumberland never got the game any closer, as they were outscored 36-29 in the second half.
Wyatt Fishel also had a big night. He scored 15 points, with most of them coming in the paint. Four of Arcola’s starters reached double figures, with Chase Strader and Cole Hutton joining Shafer and Fishel with 12 and 10. Kollin Seaman, Arcola’s leading scorer on the season, also had 7.
Cumberland had three players reach double figures. Ryan Green, Brandon Shaon, and Gunner McMechan each had 10.
Arcola improved to 13-3 with the win. Cumberland fell to 9-8 on the season.
The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday in the opening round of the Little Okaw Valley Tournament. The Pirates play Martinsville at 11:30am on 100.5/99.FM WCRA.
