The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes improved to 15-2 Friday night. The Shoes had three players reach double figures on their way to a 76-49 win over Highland. T-Town was led by Mitch Hardiek’s 25 points. Brett Mette and Brant Bueker also had 16 and 14 for the Shoes. The matchup looked pretty even after one half of play with Teutopolis leading 32-31, but the Shoes broke the game open with a 26-5 third quarter. Teutopolis begins play in the Nashville Invitational Tournament on Monday. They’ll play against the tournament’s host, Nashville, at 8:00pm.
The Cumberland Pirates are one win away from matching last year’s total after a 51-22 win at Neoga Friday. The Pirates defense kept Neoga in check all night, giving up just six points a piece in the first three quarters before holding the Indians to three points in the fourth. Cumberland improved to 9-7 with the win. The Pirates will host Arcola on Tuesday before heading to Martinsville Saturday for the start of the Little Okaw Valley Conference Tournament.
Cumberland had a balanced scoring attack with 10 players putting points on the board. Gunner McMechan led the way with 11, while Trevor Beard and Blayke Cutts had 9 and 8 points each off the bench.
