On Thursday, January 14 the third presentation in the historical presentation series will take place at the Effingham County Museum at 7:00pm.
The presentation will be led by Jill Moomaw, who will tell the story of a one room schoolhouse,named McCoy School, that is located northeast of Altamont. The school dates back to the late 1800‘s and was in session until 1952.
The presentation will include an overview of the school’s history, along with pictures from throughout the years and items from the school. In addition, the presentation will show what a day in a one room schoolhouse was like. The evening will include readings taken from the stories and experiences of former students at McCoy School.
Jill McCoy began presenting about McCoy School while she was attending Southern Illinois University in the early 1990’s. One of the requirements for her Cinema Photography Major was a documentary class. She chose to research and document McCoy school, and has since shared this documentary with a number of community groups and schools.
