The Mattoon Police Department have made an arrest on the charges of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Theft, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Battery, and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. The arrested of 20-year-old Riverdale resident Kenneth Moultrie all of which stemmed from an incident that occurred at 1:43am on Sunday, January 10th
The charges against Moultrie allege that he was in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Furthermore, during the course of an illicit drug transaction while in said vehicle, the charges allege that Moultrie stole product from the victim and attempted to speed away in the stolen vehicle. The victim became entangled in the open window of the car and Moultrie allegedly continued to drive down the street, dragging the victim while repeatedly punching the him in the face. The car came to a stop when Moultrie allegedly ran off the roadway and struck a tree. Moultrie then fled the scene on foot.
The victim was treated at SBLHC for facial injuries. A second victim, who was a back seat passenger in Moultrie’s stolen car, was taken to SBLHC for treatment of broken bones within his face as a result of the car crash.
Moultrie was taken to the Coles County jail.
