Members of the Apollo Conference have voted in favor of granting Salem’s request to leave the conference. The vote was made Tuesday by the conference’s board. The decision was made unanimously, and will go into effect following the 2016-2017 season. Conference by-laws require a two year waiting period for a school to leave, but the vote will grant Salem an early release.
The Apollo Conference had recently voted in favor allowing Mahomet-Seymour and Lincoln to join, both of which are over 130 mile trips from Salem.
Salem is expected to attempt to join the Cahokia Conference, which includes Breese Central, Red Bud, Columbia, Wesclin, Carlyle, Freeburg, and Dupo.
