Colin Trevorrow was selected to helm Star Wars Episode IX back in August and the poor guy is already being attacked by ravenous fans. Mind you, the film is not due until 2019. According to Entertainment Tonight, a petition has been started on change.org to have Trevorrow removed from the film and instead place George Lucas at the lead. The argument is that George deserves one last hurrah with a Star Wars film. I must say, I disagree. George Lucas could have had all the “hurrahs” he wanted, but instead he decided to sell the franchise for an obscene amount of money. He sold his chance. More power to him for doing so, but it’s over. Plus, remember the prequel trilogy? Remember Jar Jar Binks? That was all George.
Colin Trevorrow is a proven success. He directed Jurassic World which is pretty much second only to Star War: The Force Awakens in box office accolades this year. He’s still new-ish on the scene, but obviously he has potential. I expect Star Wars fans to be crazy, but at least wait for a trailer before you start forming committees and starting petitions to fire the guy.
