(Crews work to assess the damage and begin clean-up on Monday)
A 32-year-old Farina woman is facing a number of charges after driving her vehicle into the Comfort Suites hotel on 1310 West Fayette Avenue in Effingham Monday.
The incident happened at 12:40pm. When emergency crews arrived on the scene found that the car had driven through the front entrance doors, past the front lobby desk, through the center hallway, and after smashing in to the east wall (exterior wall) in the dining room, backed up and stop in the middle of the dining room.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Rachel Jones. She was brought into custody from the scene, and has been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting a Peace Officer, Reckless Conduct, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Driving Without Valid Registration. Jones also was charged Monday in a separate incident with Retail Theft and Driving While License Revoked.
No one was injured in the incident at the hotel.
