The Altamont School District finished its semester with good news at the high school. The Altamont Board of Education learned in October that the failure rate at the high school was near 20%. That number referred to how many students were failing at least one class. The Board then set a goal to reduce that number to 8%, which was surpassed, with the number being reduced to 6.4% at the end of the semester. Additionally, of the total number of grades earned by students in the district (2264), the passing rate was 97.8%.
The Board also announced that the Veteran’s Initiative has been an initial success. Through the initiative the Altamont School District is offering diplomas to World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans who left high school to serve in the armed forces and were honorably discharged.
