The Effingham Park Board says the Workman Sports Complex should be ready to open on February 1. Park District officials were assured last month by the project’s contractor that the facility will be ready to open by that date. One thing that won’t be open on February 1 is the sports complex’s aquatic center, which is expected to open on March 1. Along with the aquatic center, construction crews are still installing the gym floor. Material for the floor arrived last month, and the installation should be completed in the next couple of weeks.
It has also been announced that the Park District is holding a public hearing next week to receive public comments on the proposal to sell bonds in the amount of up to $500,000. The purpose of the bond sale is for financing park facilities and improvements, including landscaping, furniture, and fixtures at the Sports Complex, and related facilities, improvements, and costs. The hearing will be on Wednesday, January 13 at 6:30pm at the Ron Diehl Center.
