The Effingham Flaming Hearts improved to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the Apollo Conference on Friday with a 72-62 win over Taylorville. Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, with Effingham holding a 22-20 lead at the half. Both offenses would heat up in the second half, but it would be the Hearts that were able to pull away. Effingham took a 48-37 lead into the fourth quarter, and it was a lead they’d never give up on their way to the 10 point win. Friday’s game saw both teams find success from beyond the arc, with Effingham making 10 threes to Taylorville’s 9. Grant Wolfe and Jacob Donaldson led the way for the Hearts with 31 and 24 points a piece. Taylorville’s top scorer was Blake Heimsness with 15. The loss dropped Taylorville to 8-7.

Ryan Armstrong of Altamont was the game’s leading scorer with 17. Trenton Poe of Dieterich scored 13. Altamont is 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the NTC. With the loss Dieterich is now 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the NTC.
St. Elmo-Brownstown 47 Windsor Stew Stras 37
Landon Feezel of Stew Stras and Tristan Warner of Windsor each scored 18 points. St. Elmo-Brownstown improved to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Windsor-Stew Stras is now 7-7 overall and 1-2 i the NTC.
