The Cumberland Pirates evened out there record at 7-7 Friday with a home win over Okaw Valley. The Pirates topped the Timberwolves 66-50, snapping a three-game losing streak. The Pirates trailed 9-2 early, but thanks to a balanced scoring effort they were able to take a 18-14 lead into the second quarter. Cumberland never trailed the rest of the way, leading by as much as 21.
On offense it was a team effort for Cumberland with 9 players scoring. Gunner McMechan led the way with 15, while Tyson Magee had 14. Cumberland had trouble guarding the 3-ball, as Okaw Valley made 9 shots from beyond the arc. It wasn’t enough for the Timberwolves, who struggled with turnovers when they weren’t scoring from outside. Okaw Valley gave the ball away 24 times, while Cumberland turned it over just 8 times.
The Pirates will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Paris on 99.5/100.5 FM WCRA.
