Gas prices in Illinois are ending the year quite a bit lower than they did last year. Triple A’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Illinois is $2.01 as of the morning on December 31st. That’s about 21-cents less than New Year’s Eve a year ago. Looking at changes to the average fuel cost in Illinois throughout 2015, the current price is almost a full dollar less than what drivers were paying in June.
Looking locally, current gas prices are as much as 24-cents cheaper than the state average. In Effingham County fuel costs range from $1.77 to $1.89 a gallon.
