The Newton Lady Eagles picked up their second consecutive championship at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament. Newton cruised to a win in the finals, beating Brownstown-St. Elmo 52-24. Newton’s Ariel Richards, who was named the tournament’s MVP, led the way in scoring with 15 points. The Lady Eagles are now 12-5. They will be in action after the New Year, hosting Effingham on January 4th. Brownston-St. Elmo is now 12-5 after the loss.
The Effingham Lady Hearts were also in action Tuesday. The Hearts finished up the pool play portion of the Charleston Holiday Tournament with a 51-37 win against Paris and a 55-45 win over Danville. Effingham is now 10-3 on the year. The Lady Hearts will play in the tournament’s championship against host school Charleston.
