The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a flood warning for a number of area counties, including Effingham, Crawford, Jasper, Richland, Clark, Clay, Cumberland and Lawrence.
With continued reports of flooding on rural roads and low lying areas across the area, the flood warning will be in effect until noon Thursday.
The warning includes Interstate 57 between mile markers 142 and 179 and Interstate 70 between mile markers 79 and 154.
Precautionary and preparedness actions are advised.
Drivers are reminded that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams,as well as farm and country roads. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. find alternate routes.
Additionally, do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway as the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
