UPDATE: Route 45 has been reopened. However still use caution when going through low lying areas.
Original Story: Due to high water levels Route 45 near Watson (seen above) is closed until further notice. It should be mention as well that other roads may still be open to traffic that caution should be used.
The National Weather Service based out of Lincolnd reports that flooding continues in many areas,especially from Taylorville to Paris,where rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches were widespread. The heaviest rains were centered in the area south of I-72 and north of I-70. Many secondary roads are closed, especially where they cross creeks and streams.
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected tonight and Monday,before the rain finally tapers off toward late afternoon.
Flooding will continue to be a significant threat. This includes the following highways,
Interstate 55 between mile markers 77 and 80.
Interstate 57 between mile markers 142 and 251.
Interstate 70 between mile markers 78 and 150.
Interstate 72 between mile markers 130 and 182.
Interstate 74 between mile marker 165 and the Indiana border.
People are urged not to underestimate the power of flood waters. only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle. Be especially cautious at night, when it is difficult to estimate the depth of the water.
