Since the NBA’s second season in 1947 Christmas Day basketball games have been a tradition. This year there will be five games played on Christmas, with two of the best matchups airing locally on 98.9 The Game.
Coverage on 98.9 The Game will begin at 12:30pm. The Oklahoma City Thunder are hosting the Chicago Bulls, with tipoff set for 1:30pm. The Bulls enter the game with a record of 15-11, which currently places then sixth in the Eastern Conference. There has been controversy around the team this week with top scored Jimmy Butler calling out coach Fred Hoiberg, saying the team needs to be coached harder.
The Thunder are 20-9 on the season, which is currently the third best record in the Western Conference. OKC is led by Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, each averaging over 25 points per game.
Immediately following the contest between the Bulls and Thunder will be a Finals rematch. The Cleveland Cavaliers take their Eastern Conference leading 19-7 record on the road to face the defending champion Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are 27-1, which is the best start in NBA history. Stephen Curry, last year’s MVP, is averagin a league leading 31.2 points per game. Four time MVP LeBron James will look to avenge last year’s Finals loss. James enters the game averaging 26.4 points per game, along with over 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
