The Illinois State Police (ISP) District 12 has released enforcement figures from the Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols which were conducted on Wednesday, December 20th in Effingham and Fayette Counties.
During the patrol police issued 35 safety belt citations and 1 child restraint citations. There were 51 total citations issued.
State Police Trooper and Safety Education Officer Tammy Welborn said in a release that most motorists know safety belts save lives, but some ignore their safety restraint devices. These patrols are conducted to reinforce the occupant protection message by targeting those who choose to ignore the law.
