The Mattoon Police Department arrested an Effingham resident Sunday afternoon on the charges of Retail Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The charges against 22-year-old Trenton Morrison allege that he stole merchandise from Wal-Mart and was in possession of prescription medication without a script. Furthermore, at the time of the arrest it was found that Morrison was wanted on an Effingham County warrant of arrest for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Morrison was taken to the Coles County jail.
Mattoon Police made an additional arrest over the weekend in a Domestic Battery case. Mattoon resident Scott Johnson was arrested at 3:26am on Saturday. The 42-year-old Johnson was charged with Domestic Battery and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The charges allege that he battered a female and that he possessed prescription medication without a script. Johnson was taken to the Coles County jail. Minor injuries were reported by the victim.
