The South Central School Board has approved the district’s tax levy. The levy was set at an increase of 4.98% over the previous year. Because the increase was less than 5% a Truth in Taxation hearing was not held.
South Central Superintendent Kerry Herdes spoke to the Board about the release of PARCC test results. Herdes cautioned people not to read too much into the results because they are a completely different type of assessment than the district has ever had. He said further that this first round of PARCC testing is to set a baseline, and that the standards are internationally benchmarked.
The Board also approved the naming of the high school gymnasium after late coach Gary Shirley. With the approval the gym will now be named “Coach Gary Shirley Memorial Gym.” Shirley is a IBCA Hall of Fame member. He won over 500 games while at Kinmundy-Alma and South Central. Coach Shirley passed away in 2014.
