Stephen Wigginton’s term as United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois began in 2010, and came to an end last Friday. Wigginton announced his plans to resign last month, with his intention to join a national law firm based in St. Louis.
Attorney Jim Porter, who is a longtime top assistant for the Southern District has been named U.S. Attorney on an interim basis. While Porter takes over the role for now, the Department of Justice is currently searching for a permanent replacement.
