The Effingham County Board met Monday for a special board meeting, at which they’d hoped to pass the Fiscal Year 2016 budget. The budget was on the agenda at the regularly scheduled meeting last week, but the Board was without a bid from Blue Cross Blue Shield for health insurance and dental and vision insurance. The Board cannot finalize the budget until an insurance bid is approved.
The Board anticipated those bids being in by Monday afternoon, but that was not the case. An additional special meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday. If the bids have arrived a budget will be approved.
The special meeting was held following the Legislative Committee meeting. The Committee discussed an ordinance that would allow the Board to vacate a committee seat if member reached a certain number of unexcused absences over the course of the year. The idea behind the ordinance is to make sure committee members are present and active.
