The Effingham County Health Committee learned at the Wednesday meeting that the Health Department has received some of their expected federal funding. The Health Department received funding from WIC and Medicaid. WIC comes from the federal government, while medicaid is received from both the federal and state level. It was also announced that emergency preparedness funds from the CDC are on the way. With the recent funding received the Health Department anticipates being able to operate fully until late in the spring.
The Health Department was forced to operate on a reduced schedule of four day weekly earlier this year, but the scheduled has recently been extended back to five days. Additionally, at this time all programs and services are operational. However, if no state budget is passed by the end of spring 2016 it is likely that services will have to be cut.
