The Effingham County Board held a special meeting to vote on the tax levy and the County’s budget for fiscal year 2016. The Board had to table their vote on the budget though, because they are still awaiting bids from Blue Cross Blue Shield for health insurance and dental and vision insurance. The Board cannot finalize the budget until an insurance bid is approved. At the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting last month a tentative budget was approved, with revenue projected at $81,000 more than expenditures. That figure could change though when the final budget is approved.
The Board was able to approve the County’s tax levy at the meeting, though it was noted that the levy may need to be revisited once the budget is approved. The levy was set with an increase of 4.99% over last year.
