The City of Effingham recently made a donation of $1,000 to the Heroes Memorial Fund.
When completed the Memorial will be placed on the lawn of the old county courthouse in downtown Effingham. The memorial was created with the idea to honor “past, present, and future” local emergency responders and military personnel.
“I want to thank Mrs. Bonnie Mellendorf and Mrs. Arnetia Osborn for taking the bull by the horns on this project,” stated Mayor Jeff Bloemker. “They saw a need and tried to get others interested in running the effort. When no one would raise their hand, they decided the issue was important enough that they would run it. Recognizing the first responders in Effingham County is important. These professionals save our lives and our property – we owe them a debt of gratitude. Thank you to these ladies for putting their shoulder to this effort!”
