The Effingham chapter of Blessings in a Backpack has been presented with a $3,100 check, the proceeds of this year’s Chili Fest. The event was organized by the Effingham Central Business Group, which selected Blessings in a Backpack as the charity recipient. The contribution will support 39 area children.
“Chili Fest is the largest event for the Effingham Central Business Group,” said Jamie Sayne, Chairman of Chili Fest 2015. “Blessings in a Backpack was chosen as our charity/organization of choice for 2015 and with good reason. To know that all funds donated stay here in Effingham County is a blessing in itself. Knowing that we directly impact children in our own community and seeing the work the Blessings board members put into their organization made it an easy choice to donate to Blessings. We feel honored to impact over 39 children in Effingham. Thank you to all families who came out to support Chili Fest 2015.”
Brittany Palmer of Blessings in a Backpack commented, “We were thrilled to be chosen as beneficiaries for the Chili Fest event. The event was a lot of fun, and had great attendance. We appreciate the efforts of the Effingham Central Business Group to support our mission to alleviate childhood hunger in our community. Their donation will do so much good.”
The Blessings in a Backpack organization in Effingham is currently serving around 400 local students, from three years old through eighth grade. The group touts the Power of 80, estimating that $80 can feed one student each weekend for the full school year.
