A location in Edgewood has been approved to grow medical marijuana. The approval came from the State Department of Agriculture on Tuesday. With the approval Effingham Medicinal Farms may now build a facility to be used for cultivation.
In October 2014 Effingham Medicinal Farms approached the Effingham Plan Commission with the proposal to build the facility in Effingham. The plan commission gave their recommendation for the rezoning that would have allowed the facility, but the City Council eventually voted down the proposal 3-2.
