According to The Boot, on this day in in 1975 a 20-year-old Reba McEnitre signed her first record deal with Mercury Records. At the time, Reba was attending Oklahoma State University studying education and occasionally doing gigs in a band with her siblings, the Singing McEntires. While in college, Reba was invited to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. Singer, songwriter, and media personality Red Steagall was in attendance and was impressed, so he decided to help Reba get a recording deal. Reba cut a demo in 1957, Steagall got the demo to the right hands and the rest is history. Congratulations to Reba!
