State and local police are increasing their efforts to catch drunk drivers over the Halloween weekend. Extra patrols will be utilized to keep drunk drivers off the road. Police will also be on the lookout for speeders, distracted drivers and those who are not buckled up. Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Brian Williamsen says they are especially concerned since Halloween falls on a Saturday night.
From 2010 to 2014 in Illinois, 16 people died and more than 14 people were injured in car crashes on Halloween. Five of the fatal accidents involved alcohol.
