The first of three meetings held by the Neoga Board of Education to discuss the long-term direction and health of the community’s educational system was Thursday.
Representatives from three neighboring school districts, Stewardson-Strasburg, Cumberland, and Windsor, were in attendance. These three districts have been identified by recently surveyed Neoga residents as the most desirable consolidation partners if Neoga were to pursue that option.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 4 at 6:00pm, at which the school board’s finance committee will present information on the costs of reinstating extracurricular activities, elective course offerings, and a regular-length school day for the 2016-17 school year and beyond.
None of these meeting will include a vote by the school board about putting a referendum back on the ballot for April 2016 elections. The board’s goal is instead to provide interested community members its most up-to-date information about the district’s current and future financial scenarios and to allow them time to consider that information ahead of its next meeting.
