The Effingham Unit 40 School Board recently heard the results of the audit of the District’s FY15 finances. The audit found no issues, thus giving the district a clean bill of health financially. Additionally, Unit 40 was found to be in compliance with all financial requirements. It was also announced to the Board that the District is has an operating expense per pupil that is about $2,400 less than the state average. The audit was conducted by Glass and Shuffett.
In other action, the Board has started moving forward with setting the District’s tax levy. An EAV for the district is predicted to be $414 million, which is the estimated equalized assessed valuation of the property within the district. This is about a 6.25% increase over last year, and will be reflected in the tax levy. The current tax rate is at 3.627. A public hearing has been set for November 16 at 6pm, just prior to the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting, to discuss the tax levy.
