An Effingham man was fatally electrocuted Wednesday while working on a billboard owned by Dusty’s Sign Service near Centralia. The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as 22-year-old Zachariah Lock, and has ruled that his death was an accident.
The incident occurred around 1:00pm while Lock was installing new fabric on a billboard on Route 161. While placing a metal pole to hold the billboard fabric in place came it came in contact with a nearby electric line. Lock was then knocked to the ground from a metal ladder and is believed to have died instantly. He was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia where he was pronounced dead.
