The Effingham County Board has approved the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget for layover. Board member Rob Arnold, who is the chairman of the Tax and Finance Committee, said that revenue over expenditures come out positive at $81,000 for the County. He did say further though that the budget is still very much a work in progress due to uncertainty about what amount of funding will come from the state. With the budget approved for layover it is now available for public review.
The Board also approved two requests for financial support. The Board has extended their agreement with the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association to continue paying the utility bills for the Effingham County Courthouse Museum for another year. The Board approved this extension after hearing from museum representatives and supporters about the community benefits of the museum.
The second funding request was for the Ballard Nature Center in Altamont. The Board approved a total contribution of $10,000 for the nature center. The payment will be split up though with $6,000 given during the current fiscal year and the remaining $4,000 coming after the first of December. The money will be used for improvements to the roadway leading up to the nature center and for an extension to the facility’s roof.
The Board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the 911 Board. The agreement allows for the continued use of the city police department and county sheriff’s office as locations for 911 answering points. Other facilities would be available as well with the agreement.
