Illinois State Police troopers from District 12, which contains Effingham and many of the surrounding counties, are conducting Roadside Safety Checks in Effingham and Marion Counties. This current round of patrols will last through the end of the month.
Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence.
Police conduct these safety efforts because alcohol and drug impairment are both significant factors in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in the state. The patrols are designed to keep the roads safe by removing dangerous drivers.
This effort is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
