The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile from rural Iola, a 15-year-old male juvenile from Flora, and a 17-year-old female juvenile from Flora.
The arrests are a result of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a series of burglaries in the Edgewood and Farina areas. Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon said his office lead the joint investigation along with the cooperation of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Flora Police Department and the Farina Police Department. The string of burglaries occurred in mid-September of this year.
“Without the cooperative efforts of all of these law-enforcement agencies, it’s likely these subjects and others involved would still be on the loose. I am very proud of our agency and all those who participated to bring these individuals to justice.” said Sheriff Dave.
Additional arrests are anticipated and it’s believed the burglaries were fueled by drug addiction and the need for cash to support it. Sheriff Mahon would also like to thank the victims for their patience during this investigation and the citizens who assisted law enforcement in solving these crimes.
