The Mattoon Police Department and Coles County Crimestoppers are requesting public assistance in regards to a shooting that occurred near Mattoon Middle School in the 800 block of Dakota Avenue on Saturday October 10th just before 9:00pm.
Police say the incident began when an unidentified man exited a car and fired numerous rounds into an occupied vehicle that was following him. The suspect was armed with a handgun. Despite numerous bullets hitting the vehicle, the victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7-6’0, stocky build, and in his 20’s or 30’s. His vehicle is described as a dark colored car and may have been occupied by two or more black male suspects.
