A preliminary hearing has been set for the California man facing Class X Felony heroin charges in Effingham County. 45-year-old Conrad Valdez was charged last month with Controlled Substance Trafficking and Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.
The charges came after he was pulled over on Interstate 70 in his semi-truck and was found to be in possession of approximately 20 kilograms, or 44 pounds, of heroin. The street value of this amount is estimated at $3.5 million.
The preliminary hearing will be on Thursday, October 22. At this time there is no scheduled trial date in the case.
If found guilty, Valdez could face anywhere from 15 to 120 years in prison.
