A Mason man was injured early Wednesday morning after a two vehicle accident.
The accident occurred at 5:10am on Route 37 approximately a mile and a half north of Mason. The accident occurred when a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Mason resident Dustin Higgs was driving southbound in the northbound lane of Route 37, running two vehicles off the roadway.
One of these two vehicles ran off the road was driven by 6-9-year-old Mason resident William F. Goddard. Goddard was pulling two grain wagons loaded with soy beans. He attempted to turn left to get off the roadway to avoid Higgs. In the process though Higgs struck Goddard’s vehicle.
Higgs was injured in the accident, and was transported to St. Anthony’s then Carle Hospital in Champaign. He was charged with DUI and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Goddard was not injured in the accident.
